El profesor Henry Higgins, un experto en fonética, hace una simple apuesta con su amigo, el coronel Pickings: convertir a Eliza Doolittle, una humilde vendedora de flores, a hablar y comportarse como una dama de la alta sociedad en tan sólo seis meses.
Haciendo alusión a la mitología de Ovidio, podemos ver que no sólo la personalidad de Eliza empieza a cambiar, sino que también vemos desarrollar un enamoramiento entre el profesor Higgins y Eliza.
