Publicado en 1784, “¿Qué es la Ilustración?” es uno de los textos fundamentales para comprender el llamado “Siglo de las Luces”, así como la corriente intelectual que habría de convertirse en uno de los pilares del mundo moderno. En él Immanuel Kant (1724-1804) hizo frente al fanatismo y la superstición, realizando la propuesta de que cada cual ha de acostumbrarse a pensar por sí mismo, según su propia razón, sin aferrarse puerilmente a la cómoda tutela de los prejuicios y dogmas del momento. El volumen, prologado y editado por Roberto Rodríguez Aramayo, recoge asimismo otros textos de Kant que iluminan su filosofía de la historia, sus concepciones morales y su pensamiento político, como son “Idea para una historia universal en clave cosmopolita” (1784) y “Teoría y práctica” (1793).
