The theme of the present volume "Multiscale Analysis" has been introduced about a decade ago and is now reaching a stage where a first balance can be made and further research directions should be decided.
Contributions have been carefully selected to ensure the reader will not be confronted with quantum mechanics at one side of the spectrum nor with chemical plants or even the environment on the other side. Maintaining a strong connection with reality i.e. experimental data was another selection criterion. Experimental validation remains the corner stone of any theoretical development and very powerful experimentel techniques are emerging.
Areas covered include discussing in depth an important example of experimental techniques. Coming from the medical world, Magnetic Resonance techniques can now provide even quantitative answers to problems our community is faced with. The modeling issue is discussed further. Finally, the limitations of the classic reactor engineering models are outlined.

  • ADVANCES IN CHEMICAL ENGINEERING
    MARIN, GUY B.
Understanding and modeling the kinetics of chemical reactions is crucial to any research and development effort aimed at process optimization and innovation. This volume provides four complementary points of view. It reflects state-of-the-art developments as well as views on the way to proceed by reporting on the efforts of a representative, sample of research and developmen...

  • ADVANCES IN CHEMICAL ENGINEERING
    MARIN, GUY B.
This volume on automotive emission control emphasizes the role of chemical engineering in automotive emission control. Clearly the development of mathematical models describing the different functions of the converter(s), as well as their interaction, has been and still is crucial. Each of the contributions advocates the implementation of the latter, combined with experimental...

  • ADVANCES IN CHEMICAL ENGINEERING: MATHEMATICS AND CHEMICAL ENGINEERING AND KINETICS
    MARIN, GUY B.
The cross-fertilization of physico-chemical and mathematical ideas has a long historical tradition. This volume of Advances in Chemical Engineering is almost completely dedicated to a conference on “Mathematics in Chemical Kinetics and Engineering” (MaCKiE-2007), which was held in Houston in February 2007, bringing together about 40 mathematicians, chemists, and chemical eng...

  • CATALYSIS AND KINETICS: MOLECULAR LEVEL CONSIDERATIONS
    MARIN, GUY B.
Advances in Chemical Engineering was established in 1960 and is the definitive serial in the area. It is one of great importance to organic chemists, polymer chemists, and many biological scientists. Written by established authorities in the field, the comprehensive reviews combine descriptive chemistry and mechanistic insight and yield an understanding of how the chemistry dri...
