[Translated from Russian] This publication is a new edition of Technical Reports Series No. 240, Guidebook on Spent Fuel Storage (1991). Its purpose is to provide reference information on possible options for spent fuel storage, to describe the history and observed trends in the development of spent fuel storage technologies, and to summarize operational experience and lessons learned. New trends related to high-burnup spent fuel and mixed oxide (MOX) spent fuel, as well as extended storage durations, are discussed in detail. In addition, the publication contains information on the distribution of the current global inventory of spent fuel among storage systems, along with descriptions (and corresponding terminology) of the available spent fuel storage technologies and various storage facility locations.
