In this work, a fictionalized John is addressing a contemporary audience directly, as if they were the original recipients of the book. Unlike the author's two previous books, which were historical fictions, this one does not include fictional elements. It does not dwell on possible scenarios advanced by information found in the text, like the trip to Spain in the case of Paul. Rather, it aims at providing the audience with some additional historical information so they can have a better understanding of the place and time in which John wrote. The reader will notice, for example, that instead of using inclusive language, which would be anachronistic, John uses male language to address God. The author also explores, fictionally, John's feelings, to allow the readers to imagine how he might have felt in the troubled times he lived in.

  • JESUS, DISCIPLE OF THE KINGDOM
    OSVALDO D. VENA
That Jesus started his career as a disciple of John the Baptist is an idea that has gained almost universal recognition in the scholarly world. His coming from Galilee to be baptized by John in the river Jordan is the most compelling proof of Jesus' subordination to John. But quickly after John was executed Jesus started his own career, not as a disciple anymore, but as a teach...

  • THE GOSPEL AND THE PLAYGROUND
    OSVALDO D. VENA
In this book Osvaldo D. Vena wants to bring into dialogue two communities. One is the hypothetical community of Mark, which can be reconstructed behind the Gospel. It is a community that is locked in place and time, the first-century Mediterranean world. It is made up of adults and children in a hierarchical relationship that places the former over the latter, speaking for them...
